A home-made table

So I have always wanted a farm table... You know one of those old rustic type that can fit your family, the family next door, and more! The kind that you can fit all your guest at when you host a party?

Well I decided to finally make one!  Why go out and buy one for like $900+ dollars? Why spend all that money when I could just make it myself?  That's just what I did!

First I went and priced the wood and stains... About $80 here in Japan... Would be cheaper if we were stateside... And drew up some plans...

I went out and bought the wood once I was ready...

Then I sold our old glass square table that just didn't work for us...

I had my husband watch the kids while I started cutting and building...

Then I built some more!

Soon I had my table built!

All this took me about 6 hours from start to finish...

A week passed and I was able to devote more time to finishing the table... Firt I sanded it down... Then added stain... After 24 hours, I added the shellac...

Voila!

Once I have finished cleaning up my work area and have a moment, I'll post the Final picture of our new table!

Smiles are the best!

A new table!

So I want a new nice dining table!  The one we had was nice but it was bulky yet not big enough to fit an extra few seats at for company... My plan, to make a new table for us! Something like a farm table!

The start was me drawing up some plans and pricing wood downtown... Wood is more expensive here in Japan, however I priced our tackle to be about $100 who j is an awesome price for a farm table!

We bought wood last weekend (10 Jan)...

Today (18 jan) I started measuring, cutting and putting it together!

I can't wait to see my finished table! Can you?

A gluten free New Year's Eve 2013

We had a blast!  I was in the kitchen as soon as I got off work early at 2 up till it was time for the party at 7...

I made a gluten free pie crust to make spinach pie with!

I also made a Yule log! My favorite!!

And we had an assortment of veggies, fruit, meat, veggies, chips, dips, and homemade salsa!

It was a small get together wrung lots of kids!  I'm pretty sure the kids out numbered us adults!

While the kids played nicely (not killing each other) a few of us adults played spades!  I had never played till then, and I guess I picked it up alright because Scott and I racked up the points and won quickly!

I enjoyed the night!

Happy New Year everyone!!
